Dubstep, Jazz, Electronica, Hip Hop, Folk. All these genres were brought together in the event Alchemy: A Work In Progress. On the closing day of the Alchemy festival, Mayur Narveka aka Bandish Projekt, presented new musical collaborations with three fantastic UK artists. Last Mango in Paris, Nathan ‘Flutebox’ Lee and Arun Ghosh had spent the last week experimenting with Mayur and creating tracks that blended rhythmic spoken word with music. It’s brilliant that in such short time they were able to present beautiful performances that mixed classical instruments like the flute and clarinet with deep electronic bass. It’s not the first time that such styles have come together. However, yesterday’s performance highlighted the extra magic that’s seen when collaboration like this happens internationally creating work that speaks to both UK and Indian audiences.
